Short clips promoting the World Environment Day 2025 Beat Plastic Pollution campaign will be showcased on JCDecaux’s electronic billboards across Brussels, Antwerp, and Liège, reaching millions of passersby.
Media Orientation Programme in support of ending plastic pollution to help media professionals and journalists understand the social economic and environmental impacts of plastics, assess potential of their contributions and identify ‘stories’ to effectively communicate the theme for the WED. As part of World Environment Day 2025, UNEP’s initiative, the Tide Turners Plastic Challenge (TTPC), Will mark the occasion with special events on June 2, in India. TTPC is one of the largest youth-led environmental movements, mobilizing young people to take action against plastic pollution. Since its inception in Kenya, TTPC has expanded globally and has engaged over 990,000 youth in 60+ countries with 1 million set to be reached before World Environment Day. The summit will showcase inspiring stories and best practices from youth leaders across India who have taken meaningful steps to reduce plastic waste in their communities. To inspire and mobilize young people as key drivers of environmental sustainability, particularly in the global campaign to #BeatPlasticPollution.
In alignment with the Honourable Prime Minister of India’s 2018 commitment to phase out single-use plastics and support UNEP’s Global Clean Seas Campaign, the UN Environment Programme is convening a high-level industry roundtable to highlight industry-led solutions and partnerships that are helping reduce plastic pollution and to chart a forward-looking roadmap for scaling up sustainable practices. The roundtable will bring together leaders from key industries to share initiatives, challenges, and strategies for tackling plastic pollution, especially in the context of India’s policy actions, including bans on single-use plastic items and extended producer responsibility (EPR) for plastic packaging. A media field trip will offer first-hand access to ingredients for a compelling story on how plastic pollution is being tackled in remote mountainous areas as part of a Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm Conventions project whose Secretariat is hosted by UNEP. This year’s World Environment Day will mobilize communities across the globe to implement and advocate for lasting solutions to #BeatPlasticPollution. As the host country of this year’s World Environment Day, the Republic of Korea will highlight its national efforts to tackle plastic pollution. His Excellency KANG Hyungshik, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Korea to UNEP, will deliver a keynote address on the country’s initiatives and progress. To mark World Environment Day 2025, Mexico will launch its National Beach and Coastal Clean-Up and Conservation Campaign 2025–2030 with a flagship event in Puerto Progreso, Yucatán. To commemorate World Environment Day 2025, the Panama Canal Authority, the Interinstitutional Commission of the Panama Canal Watershed (CICH), and the Hydro-Environmental Innovation and Technology Center (CITEC) will host a multi-stakeholder forum focused on water sustainability and governance in the Panama Canal Watershed.
